The fire hydrants are painted in accordance with national standards.
The yellow helps the fire fighters easily locate a fire hydrant

that can be expected out of the hydrant.

Why do we have white fire trucks? Fire trucks are supposed to be
red?
White fire apparatus is a tradition of this fire district, that
dates all the way back to 1955. In the late 1980's several studies
were done, and is was determined that white fire apparatus had a
higher visibility level on the roadways, than the traditional red.
The red and gold reflective stripes were added in 1995, as a way
of adding additional reflectability to the fire apparatus, as well
as updating the look.

Why do other fire departments show up along with us?
You will see other department arrive along with because of one of
three reasons. We utilize many of the fire departments bordering
us for Automatic Mutual Aid on high life hazard structures. Secondly,
a department could be standing by and making additional responses
for us because we are currently tied up on another emergency. Lastly,
one of the recommendations from the Merger Task Force Public Safety
Committee was that the Fire Departments utilize Closest Station
Response. We currently utilize Jeffersontown Fire District for Closest
Station Response on our eastern border and we are currently in negotiation
with Louisville Fire Department for Closest Station Response on
our western border.
